Some notes: TED conference photographer James Duncan Davidson had a chance to take some photographs of the oil spill on a helicopter ride out to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig where the explosion occurred. This photo in particular (there are others in the set, just follow the link) puts a little perspective on the size, no?
Here's a short video that I found interesting that shows how exactly the brown pelicans are washed. It's pretty sad to see the birds. If you don't understand why it affects them so badly I suggest you watch it. The short version? Because the protective layer of feathers are waterproof the birds and their skin stays dry. But if the feathers get wet with oil, they stick together, then the water reaches their skin. Sitting outside in the wind with wet skin, the birds will start to get hypothermic. If they are sitting in the sun however, the oil actually makes the birds hyperthermic (they overheat). Thus why it's important for the search crews to find the birds and get them into this process.

Bucket List
I'll probably post about this in more detail over on http://chelpixie.com at some point but tonight I just want to get it started a little bit at a time. So it's an ongoing type of post.
A few friends have inspired me lately to do this, especially Lynette Radio (http://purplestripe.com) And well, I inspired myself the other day while imagining one of the ideal days if I could do anything at all. These are not your typical wishes like buy a house, etc. but the totally amazing things I'd love to do someday.
So starting from 1 and going to 100 in no particular order of priority, just listing:
- Attend PopTech
- Attend TED
- Fly in a wingsuit
- See RaykoKRB perform Simple Love Song live.
- Private concert with Black Lab (if Paul Durham ever sings See the Sun in my presence....there are so many favorites I want to hear live)
- Have a house concert/backyard concert with Matthew Ebel
- Spend a week on the beach
- Be initiated into the secrets of the mandala, mantra and mudra
aforementioned Pandaren Monk is now MINE....all mine /evil laugh
Really this thing has the cutest anis ever. If only I could post those.
